Here is my 70,0000 plus mile update on the Alpinestars Toucans. I am actually closer to 77K miles now and they are still water proof despite the sticking coming out now on the right toe box and both soles on left and right boot.

    I just did this last Friday on a stock 14' ktm 1190 adv. It was in worse shape than your video, but not by much. Several times, I used the same choice words, but I'd do it again. Next time, you should take the pass to Eagle-Vail absolutley stellar ride, and ut keeps you off the pavement a bit longer.

    • @RockyMountainMotoAdventures
      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures 4 месяца назад

      Absolutely! For an all around boot these do have the most protection for on and off the pavement. Most of the guys that ride with me have ended up buying these boots as well and they love them to bits. There skill level is not to my level however they are very comfortable and feel save wearing the Toucans. I also have Tech 10s and the new BMW GS Comp boots but only end up putting those on just depending on the terrain or trip im doing. But I will always say to someone buy the boot that is within your budget, your style of riding, and longevity expectations. Being youre in the Denver area if you ever want to meet up for a chat im more than happy too.

    The Pure doesn't come with forged wheels ($995) or a heated seat ($185 + $55 Comfort Seat)! And the Triple black doesn't come with the Akrapovic ("Ah-crop-o-vich") exhaust ($995), or the Adaptive Height Control (ACH $595)! They are all optional extras if you want to buy them! The ACH also doesn't raise when you lift the kickstand, only when you go above 15 mph, or if you put it into manual mode, start the engine and ask it to raise or lower. This is all fairly basic and well-known information about the bike! Nice video and audio though, thank you - keep making more content!

      Hey Rich hope alls well on this St. Patricks Day. Few pints deep at the moment and seen your comment. Thanks for the comment about the video. So I totally agree with you the base specs don't come with those features however for the US models my friend/owner of the dealership told me those where the pure and the triple black when I went out to test them out. I told me the white one is the pure with the upgraded specs that BMW USA made them take and the Triple black was spect that way as well. He said he didn't have a choice in the configurations at all on a lot of the bikes he ordered. I know in the US we are generally unable to get the base spec bikes. I tried again back in 2018 when i bought my 1200 Rallye and only wanted the base model but no go. But I was suprised that the pure they showed me did have the forged wheels kit on it as well as the heated seats. The TB had forged, heated seats, and the adaptive suspension and center stand control. I was shocked to feel that once I put the side stand up the bike did rise up on me and if it had that i was thinking it would raise up on me more as i ride. i couldnt tell that at all. My tech did come out and show me that you can change the setting on it but everything is so much out of place from what im used to that need to get used to it all. I believe the owner thinks i would be interested in the rallye version but honestly im waiting to get the 900GS a go as that one im more keen on. Either way thanks for writing. I will say if you are ever on this side of the pond look me up and I would be more than happy to show you around Colorado. Cheers.

      @@RockyMountainMotoAdventures Thanks for responding. Nobody buys a base spec GS - it's just a marketing ploy to make them look affordable. Everyone buys the Premium and Comfort packs (minimum) otherwise, they have no residual value, but you are right that the dealers have no say in the specs of the initial batches arriving. As mentioned the suspension does NOT rise (even a little) just by lifting the KSU - otherwise, what would its purpose be? It only fully rises above 15 mph and fully lowers below that - unless you manually invoke it by physically selecting it in the TFT. The bike rides at 850 mm over 15 mph, and 820 mm at a standstill (800 if the low seat is fitted). The Rally is best for off-road, especially with the 'optional' sport suspension fitted. But you do give up some useful on-road equipment. I've sat on the new 900GS and I like it. A good option for off-road use. Thanks for the CO offer - I've been living in GA for many years btw.

    • @RockyMountainMotoAdventures
      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures 5 месяцев назад

      @@RichDunn Good to hear from you. Yep so many freaking new features on this that well seems a lot of it are good and not so good depending on the riders expectations. But im jealous that you have gotten to physically got to look at the 900GS as it seems to be what the 800GS should have been ages ago Yep as for CO youre more than welcome anytime. For myself I left Donegal after 11 yrs and came back to TX to take care of some family stuff but once that was done we left for CO as couldnt get used to the humidity. So this place is now home for now.

      @@RockyMountainMotoAdventuresNice. And you will love the 900GS when you do get to see it. Great video. What’s your inseam in relation to the ride height at stop? My 1250 GSA is a factory low suspension, but with a 29” inseam I’m still on my tippy toes in Road/Auto suspension setting at stops but I can almost flat foot it in Road/Min setting. I’m hoping I can flat foot a 1300 at stop, or almost, with the new feature. Looking forward to a test ride at my dealer in the spring.

      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for reaching out. I really wanted to go in much more depth but I've been getting over a back injury. So after making the ending part of the video my technician came round to ask how I like the bike. Honestly I love it but was asking him about the suspension on that triple black. He was showing me how you can have it set to always in low, auto ride hight, and high settings. It was really cool to see that. He also told me that they did this because they are getting away from having a low suspension model only. So regarding your question, I hold heartedly believe you can touch the ground flat footed no problem in the low or auto settings. As soon as my brother test rides it in Texas I will know for sure as well as he has a 29" inseam as I'm a 31/32".

    I'm buying my first motorcycle soon and I'm looking for appropriate motorcycle gear. Would you recommend those for a sport bike and almost exclusively road riding? I'd assume they give a lot more protection over standard sport boots which is what I'm looking for mostly. I'd prefer to have more protection rather than a bit more comfort, but I'm afraid they might be too hot for the summer. Any recommendations?

    • @RockyMountainMotoAdventures
      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for reaching out. I would love to recommend you some riding boots for sport bike riding, however I am afraid my knowledge on the ends and outs of that style of riding is very limited. Honestly I would suggest going to a multi brand dealer that would by chance hold a large selection if riding gear. This way you can try on various brands at various price ranges that would fit you budget and needs. Maybe join some sport riding facebook groups and reach out to those to see what advice they recommend.

    Great review, thank you! I am painfully trying to choose between the Toucan and the Tech 7 Drystar. No one seems to carry them in stock for a side by side comparison. My use for the boot will be both long distance touring and off pavement/BDR/moto-camping on a 1250 GS. Have you tried or are you familiar with the Tech 7? If so, is there a big difference in lateral protection (should the bike come to rest on your leg in a fall) between the two boots? I guess what my question comes down to is, are you confident in the level of protection the Toucan provides or would you consider sacrificing some comfort by going to the Tech 7 for more technical off pavement riding while on a touring trip? ...is the added protection beneficial enough to sacrifice comfort? Would love to hear your thoughts!

      Hey Hey so first off I would think about really what type of rider you are and what kind of riding you do and how much of that you do. I would do exactly what I did. I bought on Amazon the Toucans and the Tech 7s. I did make sure I could return them before purchasing. Now I have been using the Tech 10s since 2003 and every 5 years i will get the new pair of Tech 10s. I get those because they offer the best in protection. I will say they suck as an ADV boot. So the Tech 7s are great and are primarily a off road enduro boot. biggest difference is that the boot is taller than the toucan so if you have riding pants like me where the Tech 7 gets in the way of those in the pant pads are a pain. So with Tech 7s I wear a more traditional motorcross pant with knee guards. I wear this set up for desert riding and more harder riding enduro. The Toucan is a lower boot. its water proof. its faster to get in and out of them. This is what i love about them. Ive been riding to work still even as its Dec and my feet are warm and dry. easier to walk in than a tech 7. The Toucan I take on all my BDR rides each year. I do the Colorado one in sections each year and never have an issue. I honestly think you cant go wrong with them and I have no peg to lever placement with those boots on any of my GS bikes as well when I go playing around with my wife on our Kawasaki's. Now if you like to ride fast, take jumps, push yourself to the extreme on smaller bikes but it sounds like you ride your 1250 mainly so i think your good to go. Dont hold me to anything but accidents happen so no matter what boot you choose nothing is for certain. If you you want to ask me anything about any products you can message me on FB facebook.com/rockymountainmotoadventures

    thanks for the review, i have trouble finding any footwear wide enough to be comfy, and dont like having to buy sizes larger just so i dont feel cramped, so am going to check these out, and even though a tad more expensive than i would like, if they do the job i'll be more than happy to pay it as they look like they will last for many years. I cant say enough about them. I am still riding mine and getting closer to 77600 miles on them now. They are still water proof believe it or not. I use my old ones now for just commuting to work and around town and the new ones I bought 2 months ago and have not broke them in yet. The soul is finally loosing some stitching and stuff but my new ones are so nice i dont want to dirty them up right now lol

      @@RockyMountainMotoAdventures thanks for the reply, and may i ask you if you think these are suitable for just regular road rides and tours?, i'm a bit fair weather & usually ride 80-250 miles in the day, so do or do you think they are a bit overkill, or a good long term investment? as i dont commute every day, and as yet have no plans for any serious off-road, but sizing & comfort are my main priorities as safety is a given. btw ive ridden 10000 miles in the last 15 months. thanks

      I think for the protection and what the boot offers, I think this would be a great boot for a long term investment for sure. From the sound of it this could be the last pair of boots that you buy based on how much you ride. @@Bob-ts2tu

    Can you tell me if most touring motorcycle pants can be worn outside the boot or is the boot to large around the shin to fit normal pants on the outside of the boot. Many thanks for a great video!

    • @RockyMountainMotoAdventures
      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures Год назад

      Hello! yes you can wear these boots with im sure majority of motorcycle pants without any issues. I have various BMW riding pants as well as Klim pants. All work fine and even the knee pads inside the riding pants do not give any issues as to the position they sit on your knee. I occasionally will put on a pair of MX pants with knee guards and have not issues with the boots. They are not as high up the shin as an MX boot. I hole heartedly believe you will love the fit an feel with the boot with any pants you own. If you are wearing jeans well I can not attest to that as I never worn jeans or just pants itself when riding. I take that back maybe back in the 80s and early 90s lol

    Superb to the point review. Short and crisp. Thanks. I use a tech7 on my Africa Twin for my off-road rides but they are an overkill on tarmac and broken tarmac rides. Would you say these are the perfect bridge between a touring boot like the Forma ADV (very little protection) and the Tech7?

    • @RockyMountainMotoAdventures
      @RockyMountainMotoAdventures Год назад

      I totally think the toucans are an amazing boot giving you the most between a touring boot and a off road boot. I have more mx boots and i do love them but they are not for my everyday commute to work or getting out and playing around on the bigger adv bikes. When I take out the smaller lighter bikes i do wear my mx boots more. I also love that these toucans are still water proof after all this time. Honestly for the money they are well worth it for me.

      Hey Hey! Yes I can for sure say they are wider in the toe box than the Sidi Adv is. I also like the fact that they are not as high up the towards the knee as they are as well. So no matter what riding pants you are wearing that has built in knee pads will fit just fine over the boot.
